Walking on Water with Focus!

A few months ago, I made a transition to fully embrace what God has called me to do and it involved taking a major step. I literally felt like I was stepping out to walk on water but I still went ahead and took the step anyway. Prior to taking this step, I had what my spiritual father once described as “divine dissatisfaction” within me. It was an intense struggle going on in my soul, so intense that I could hardly function effectively. I was debating on the inside whether to take the leap of faith and embrace the call God had for me or to stay put in what was my perfect comfort zone. I was considering so many natural factors that going for something unknown was scary.

This reminds me of the story of Peter, in Matthew 14:29, Jesus permitted Peter to come to Him walking on water. That was a tall order but he started out walking on water to go to Jesus until, he began to pay attention to the boisterous wind that was blowing all around him. This distracted him and it caused him to take his focus off the Lord Jesus. What happened next taught me a huge lesson, Peter began to sink! Infact, he had to cry out to the Lord to save him before he was rescued (Vs 30).

Many times in life, we may have to take certain steps, to someone, it may be changing jobs, to another person, it may be getting married, to someone else, it may be believing God for a miracle and the list goes on. While all these are different in nature, the story of Peter can help every one. As long as Peter had his eyes on the Lord, he was able to walk on water, the moment he took his eyes off of Jesus and began to focus on the reality of his surroundings, he began to sink.

I stepped out of the boat of comfort, I took that leap of faith and began to walk on water to embrace God’s call for my life, there is always a boisterous wind blowing every time because that’s just the way life is but as long as I keep my eyes on the Lord and His promises, I am okay. There have been times when the pressures of life have almost made me to lose my focus but I have always been reminded of what the Bible says in Hebrews 12:2; “looking unto Jesus, the author and fininsher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” My husband was reminding me the other night that, even the Lord Jesus had to fix His eyes on the joy that was set before Him. Imagine if He did not, He would have lost focus and there would have been no redemption of mankind.

The charge in this message is to encourage everyone regardless of what your own situation may be, keep your eyes on the Lord Christ and His promises! Consciously stay your mind there and let those promises become your personal revelation not just something you read or heard about. That is your platform for victory! Look for what the Scriptures say regarding you and the situation you are in, begin to meditate on it day and night, act on it and you will experience a breakthrough. No matter how scary the storms raging around you may be, keep your eyes on the greatness of your God and the raging storm will lose its power to harm you. If you feel like you are walking on water right now in your life, keep your eyes on Jesus and you will never sink, if you are sinking, cry out to Him and re-direct your focus on Him and you will be rescued.
